W & ME Stevens was founded by Wilf and Marie Stevens in 1968 when
they manufactured Spectacles for local Opticians throughout the North
East in the attic of their home in Forest Hall.
In 1982 son David joined the family business after qualifying as a Dispensing Optician
in London. Four years later following Wilf’s death, daughter Christine
returned from the south of England to also join the business, also a
qualified Dispensing Optician.
In 1986 Stevens Opticians began with a
first practice in Heaton, then two years later a second in Westerhope
and then a third in Killingworth in 1992.
Today Christine and David run two practices in Killingworth and Whitley Bay. Offering the same high standards of personal and
professional eyecare that has been at the heart of the business since
the beginning.
